Battle-tested JTCC players fare well in Mid-Atlantic tournaments

Justin Boulais

Down a game early, Justin Boulais of JTCC rallied to advance to the third round in the Battle Beltway tournament

An early hold by his opponent did not throw Justin Boulais off his game in his second round match in Battle Beltway yesterday.

Despite losing the first game of the match, Boulais, a Junior Tennis Champions Center player, battled back and reeled off six straight to capture the first set.

Boulais’ Nadal-like loopy top-spin forehands continuously drove the No. 8 seed William Clark to the back of the fence and afforded Boulais a window to attack.  With his opponent off-balance, Boulais utilized picture-perfect volleys and merciless backhands to keep Clark on the run and out of prime court position.

In dominant fashion, he defeated Clark (6-1, 6-1) to advance to the third round.  Boulais will play fellow JTCC player and No. 10 seed Benjamin Kittay this morning at 8 AM with a spot in the quarterfinals at stake.

JTCC student-athletes are participating in two tournaments this week:  Battle Beltway (12 and under) and Battle in the Burg (14, 16 and 18 age divisions).  Below are partial results involving JTCC players:
