Usue Arconada was selected to participate in Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day

Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC), the area’s world-class tennis training facility in College Park, Md., is proud to announce that Usue Arconada will take center court at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday, August 24 to help kick off the US Open.

Arconada is one of only four junior players to be chosen to participate in the National Junior Tennis & Learning’s Performance Challenge, where she will face off against tennis pros in a series of tennis skill challenges, including serving and hitting drills. Past pro participants have included Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Maria Sharapova.

At only 14-years-old, Usue Arconada is currently ranked No. 106 in the ITF rankings. She recently won her first WTA match at the Citi Open qualifiers and is the reigning 18 and under USTA Regional Tournament Segment Champion. JTCC alumni who participated in previous Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day Hitting Challenges were Denis Kudla (’07), Hai-Li Kong (’08) and Skylar Morton (’09).

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is an annual tradition that takes place the Saturday prior to the US Open, bringing together chart-topping performers, celebrities and the best tennis players in the game to celebrate the life and values of tennis legend Arthur Ashe. This year, First Lady Michelle Obama will be at the stadium to join the festivities as well as celebrities Ariana Grande and Missy Franklin.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day begins at 9:30 a.m. and the stadium show begins at 1 p.m. For additional information about Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day and to get tickets, visit www.arthurashekidsday.com.
