After enjoying spectacular Division I collegiate seasons, nine JTCC alumni will compete for the prestigious National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) individual and team championships in the next two weeks.
“We are so pleased with this impressive group of alumni who will be competing for national titles at the highest level of the collegiate game,” said JTCC CEO Ray Benton. “This is truly the culmination of at least a dozen years of hard work and discipline on and off the court.”
Five women and four men will be seeded highly in team and individual competition when the NCAA Division I Championships begin on May 17 in Orlando, FL.
Three JTCC alumnae have earned top 15 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women’s Singles rankings due to their remarkable play this season.
Lea Ma (University of Georgia), Alexa Noel (Miami University), and Ayana Akli (University of South Carolina) are ranked #3, #7, and #12, respectively. The trio has combined for a remarkable 81-15 record competing at the No. 1 position for their respective schools this season.
Elizabeth Scotty, who has already captured an astonishing six National championships, will be focused on leading the University of North Carolina to a team title. The Tar Heels currently hold the #1 ITA team ranking.
On the West Coast, Elise Wagle is #7 in the ITA doubles rankings having finished the regular season with an outstanding 21-5 mark playing doubles for the UCLA Bruins.
On the men’s side, Andrew Fenty looks to add an elusive national title to his impressive career that includes a Big Ten Player of the Year accolade. The Washington, DC native is ranked #20 in ITA singles for the 7th-ranked University of Michigan Wolverines.
William Woodall is eager and ready to defend the 5th-ranked University of Virginia’s NCAA team championship from a year ago.
Brian Cernoch will anchor the top spot for the 14th-ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels, while sophomore Ryan Colby seeks to help the 10th-ranked University of Southern California Trojans capture a national title.
