Treat Huey, 2004 Junior Tennis Champions Center graduate, made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open with his partner, Dominic Inglot of England, before falling in a hard fought match 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 to American Eric Butorac and South African Raven Klaasen.
Huey and Inglot, who were ranked No. 12 in the tournament, had previously upset the No. 7 seeded team in the third round before they were upset in the quarterfinals. They have now matched their best performance in a major, equaling their quarterfinal appearance in the 2013 U.S. Open.
Huey, who represents the Philippines but was born in Washington, D.C., attended college at the University of Virginia. After a successful college career in singles and doubles, he decided to focus exclusively on his doubles game. He said to the New York Times in 2012, “I was hoping to play the big tournaments — the Grand Slams and the Masters. So obviously I tried to see where doubles could take me.” His longtime partner has been Inglot, his teammate from Virginia.
Huey started the year ranked No. 22 in the world in doubles. After successive grand slam quarterfinal appearances and a win last October at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, Huey is primed to keep rising in the men’s doubles game.
