Yoga teacher Betsy Mayotte, MS, RYT200, NASM-CPT, joined the Tennis Center at College Park (TCCP) last summer to offer classes for members and JTCC parents. In addition to being registered as a Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, Betsy also is certified as a fitness trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She teaches hatha yoga with an emphasis on alignment and breath awareness to improve flexibility, strength, and balance.
Word is spreading. More people are learning about our Yoga Program at TCCP. Classes have been growing steadily! We started the program last summer and, since then, over 30 TCCP members, JTCC parents and players have attended either an Intermediate or Welcoming Yoga class. Many of them have become “regulars” who attend each week, despite busy schedules and hectic lives. Why? The answer is simple: yoga works – especially for those of us with busy schedules and hectic lives. In a recent survey of TCCP yoga students, every single respondent said that increased flexibility was a major goal. Many cited tight hamstrings, hips and shoulders. Most also are seeking improved balance, core strengthening, and a sharper mental game. Those who have started a home yoga practice of their own report they are seeing improvements on the court and in their lives with better balance, less strain after playing, and improved serves with mindful breathing. Yes, yoga does work!
YOGA POSE OF THE MONTH – TRIANGLE POSE
When practiced with good alignment, Triangle pose can help tennis players who want to stretch the calves and hamstrings; open the hips, chest and shoulders; and improve balance and coordination on the court. Triangle pose can also relieve symptoms of sciatica, lengthen the spine, improve digestion and circulation, build mental focus, and relieve stress.
Good alignment is important in all yoga poses, including Triangle. Come join us any time and learn how to develop a safe, enjoyable, and transformative practice. Experience for yourself the benefits of yoga. Our classes are designed with a well-rounded practice of physical poses and breathing techniques. And we always end with deep relaxation – a pose universally loved by yoga students everywhere. We hope to see you on the mat soon!
Yoga classes are offered on Monday evenings in the TCCP yoga studio:
Intermediate Yoga (6:00 to 7:00 PM)
For those with some yoga experience.
Welcoming Yoga (7:00 to 8:00 PM)
For those who are new to yoga or who want to review basics.
Come join us and experience the benefits for yourself!
