Denis Kudla defeated James Duckworth this morning in five sets (6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1) to advance to the second round at Wimbledon. The win marks Kudla’s first in a Grand Slam event. It is now a foregone conclusion that he will vault into the top 100 following the fortnight tournament.
Both Kudla and Duckworth were competing in the Wimbledon main draw for the first time in their careers.
