For alumnus Frances Tiafoe, last week marked a significant step toward excellence at the start of the 2026 season when he reached his third ATP 500-level final in Acapulco at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.
The Hyattsville native won four matches en route to his 11th ATP Tour final which included two three-set victories over countrymen Aleksandar Kovacevic and Brandon Nakashima.
In the championship match, Tiafoe fell in a tightly-contested battle to Italian Flavio Cobolli, 7-6, 6-4, but saw his ranking rise seven spots to #21.
Follow Tiafoe this week at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA, starting tomorrow. The #21 seed has a first round bye and if he wins his second round match he could face Cobolli again!
